Name: presently: Kasen Rowe
before: Kasen Taylor
Age: 29
Birthday: April 20th
Gender: Male
Original/Cannon: Original
Category: Civilian
The Look:
Physical Stats:
Kasen stands at 5’9’’ with a medium build and enough muscle to get by. There are minor scars present on his inner right forearm and large scar that goes from his collarbone, down the right side of his chest from the three years he doesn’t remember (see history). There is also a circular symbol burned into his left forearm gained from the same time period that he has since disfigured further, fearing that it might be used to control him later (though he has never been able to positively identify the symbol or its purpose). They aren’t terribly noticeable from a distance, but up close they give him a different, perhaps more dangerous impression than his kind and seemingly honest smile might imply.
His eyes are hazel. His hair is light brown cut short. As for clothing, he’s most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, though he’ll dress up more when he needs to. The wristbands, ear rings, rings, Celtic and Catholic crosses he adorns on his person partly carry over from his earlier “rebellion” years (though he’s greatly toned down since then), but some have taken on a deeper meaning since his unwilling initiation into the supernatural realm.

Personality:
Plagued by memories of death and an ever increasing feeling of hopelessness, Kasen’s moods tend to swing from a deep dark pit of depression and anger to something closer to what he had been before. On better days or if his guard is up, Kasen has a kind and honest demeanor, though he is somewhat standoffish and quiet in a large group. On darker days he prefers to be left to himself so he can fight his way through his memories and attempt to make sense of what is left of his life.
In general, he finds that he can’t get too close to anyone without feeling uncomfortable or suspicious of their motives. He attempts to hide this, knowing that alliances of one kind or another are important. He is kind at heart and likes to help people in need, but lately he will only do so as long as it doesn’t involve him becoming too close. If it will help him gain information on the group that destroyed his life he is much more likely to pay attention.
He is strong willed and fueled by anger and memories of a past he couldn’t control. Somewhere beneath the shell he created, he still possesses a decent sense of humor that shines through on the few occasions he’s found someone he considers worthy enough to see it. There is also a certain soft spot in his heart when it comes to family bonds as they are something he feels were stolen from him.
History:
Born in a suburban town in Pennsylvania to Chris and Sheila Taylor, second child of three. His parents knew of the existence of demons and the supernatural, but they tried to hide it from their kids. They were afraid and didn’t want to involve them in that kind of world. They never mentioned how they’d become aware of this, but despite their attempts, they still passed down a somewhat instinctually superstitious nature to Kasen.
Kasen has an older sister who moved away from the family when she was 19 and was never heard from again. Kasen never really knew her as he was 5 years old when she left. One of the few memories he has of her is when she informed him that he had received his name (which means “pure”) because their parents hoped that he would turn out ‘better’ than she had. Though there was probably little truth in this, it made Kasen feel as if he were a replacement for his sister ever after.
He is 5 years older than his younger brother, Benjamin. He had always been kind to his brother in part because he wished his older sibling had been better to him. He never pampered Ben, but he’d never ignored him either. Kasen considered them both pretty close.
Soon after Kasen was out of high school, Ben joined a group of demon worshipers that had covertly taken up residence in their town. The dark magic and the demons they dealt with ate away at him, making him a different, more malevolent person. The fact that Ben was also somewhat of a weakling and a coward who reveled in the power he experienced as part of the group also kept him there against his better judgment.
When the tasks of the one they served became more hazardous to their health, the group forced other human beings to put their lives on the line for them. That way they wouldn’t have to get their hands dirty and it would also give them a chance to play with their power. The leaders of the group declared that it would be best to use someone of close blood lineage for a stronger magical bond. Ben disagreed at first, but ended up giving in, fearing that if he looked weak in front of the others, he would lose his own life. So he chose to ruin the life of his brother.
Kasen (age 24) was invited to the group’s headquarters by Ben (age 19) who said it was just a social gathering. Once there, Kasen was attacked and dragged off to the ritual and became a slave to his brother’s will (Puppet). For the next 3 years Kasen was trapped in his own body, not truly aware of his situation or what his body was doing. To the rest of the world, Kasen had just disappeared.
The puppets carried out their masters' orders to the letter or died trying. Kasen was one of only a few that survived for an extended period of time.
Three years passed before their parents finally stumbled upon Ben’s secret life. They tried to talk Ben out of it, but to no avail. Knowing just how demonically centered Ben’s group was, they became convinced that Ben was possessed by a demon or spirit and tried to do a cleansing spell. Ben panicked and ordered Kasen to stop their parents from hurting him. The encounter resulted in Kasen killing their father and brutally injuring their mom, who they left for dead.
Later, Ben learned that his mother was still alive, though forcibly in a coma for her own survival. Ben’s group had already started to see Ben as a weak link, but now they began to worry that with the death of his father and survival of his mother that he might bring unwanted attention to their group. Ben told them that he would deal with the problem and sent Kasen to kill their mother, but this wasn’t enough for the others.
Kasen was standing over his mother in the hospital when he was inexplicably released from the spell. Only snippets of the last 3 years swirled senselessly in his mind. He did remember Ben’s betrayal and as he stood over his mother with his finger on the off switch of her life-support, he got the gist of what he had been about to do. Before he could decide what to do, two police officers and a doctor came in and Kasen barely had time to hide in the closet. It was through them that he learned the murder of his father and was wrecked as he partly remembered that he was the cause.
Kasen did not go to the police but did call in anonymously about the occult group that Ben was involved in, hoping to give them enough of a lead for them to arrest the group, but the location Kasen sent the police to had been quickly abandoned before their arrival. The police did find evidence that Ben had been involved with such a group, but they also ended up suspecting that Kasen might also have been mixed up with the group. Kasen had, after all, pretty much dropped off the face of the earth for three years. Kasen had no way to disprove his involvement as he had no excuse for where he’d been so he kept to the streets, hiding. Despite intensive searches, the cops found no evidence on his current location. They also could find no trace of the occult group’s current whereabouts.
Though traces of both Kasen and Ben were found at the crime scene, there wasn’t enough to understand what had happened. Not long afterwards, Ben’s body turned up in an out of the way river. Whether Kasen’s might also be down in the water or Kasen had been the one who put Ben there or something else, the police could not say for sure. The cause of Ben’s death was uncertain. An autopsy showed that water was probably not the cause, but there were no visible wounds.
With nothing to go on, Kasen’s case was somewhat forgotten. While the cops searched his home and his friends for evidence, Kasen searched for the occult but found nothing of them in the area.
Torn between his staying near his mother and finding the group responsible for ruining his and his family’s lives, Kasen chose the occult group (as he couldn’t do anything for his mom). By stealing a few of Ben’s personal items out of his house (now a crime scene) Kasen found a few vague clues as to what the group actually was and went off to search for more information. He returned 5 months later to find that his mother had been moved. After interrogating a nurse until she became suspicious of him, he left without learning who moved her or to where. He hoped it was his estranged sister, but unfortunately he had no luck locating her.
A year and a half later (age 29), Kasen has come no closer to locating the group that had taken control of him. The police have declared Ben and Kasen as the most likely suspects for the murder and attempted murder of their parents, though Ben is dead and they suspect Kasen may be as well. The only other lead they had was the occult group which they also couldn’t find.
Kasen dedicated himself to finding the group and making them pay for what they had done, but his leads are quickly drying up and with them, the only thing left that gives him purpose.
Aftereffects: Although Kasen had not been aware of his own movements at the time, memories concerning what he did under the spell of the group now occasionally resurface whether waking or asleep. Most of it doesn’t make any sense until it’s put into real life context. Seeing a person in the flesh, for example, might remind him that he’d once been sent to gather information from them, or seeing a name in the paper might bring to mind another person of the same name that he had murdered. Unfortunately, the information is usually more confusing than anything and the memories that are most vivid are usually ones of violence and death.

-Because of his negative history with magic, Kasen’s first reaction to most things supernatural is with anger and fear

Interests: Lately his only goals are to hunt down the occult group that turned his brother against him and made him kill his father and to find a way to prevent it from ever happening again. In the past he was interested in reading fiction and fantasy. He also enjoyed playing piano and guitar, long walks in quiet areas, and dueling his brother in mock sword fights.
Sample Post:
At some point the ground had fallen away beneath him. He’d blinked and the whole world had gone crazy. His brother and his freakish occult group or whatever they had been were missing. His mother lay in a hospital, comatose and unaware that Kasen had not once, but twice been forced to try and kill her. And his father...
Kasen felt nauseous as he looked down at the body before him. It had been far from easy, but only 15 minutes earlier Kasen had snuck into the morgue. Perhaps it was foolish for him to have gone in considering how many things could go wrong, but he needed to see for himself. He needed to know that the awful images in his head were of what really happened and as soon as he’d pulled the corpse out on its sliding table, he knew there was no way he’d misinterpreted.
Large purple welts and gashes that no longer bled were visible on his father’s grey skin crossing up and down the man’s abdomen and around the arms and head. Kasen stepped sharply away as a surfacing memory flashed before his eyes. He saw himself striking his pleading father down without emotion good or ill.
Kasen turned away, stifling a disgusted and horrified moan. He was out in the hallway before he stopped himself. He couldn’t leave the body like that. When the caretakers returned in the morning they would know someone had been in there.
With great effort Kasen forced himself back to his father’s side. He’d meant to simply slide the body back into its dark drawer and get out, but instead found himself looking down into the corpse’s bruised yet peaceful face. The horrid images were replaced by feelings of melancholy. Guilt flooded his being until it filled him and leaked out in the form of tears. Kasen swallowed hard as an urgency overtook him and he gently clapped his father’s cold hand in both of his own
“I’m so sorry, Dad,” the man replied. The apology seemed far from enough, but it was all he had. The dead man didn’t respond nor did the guilt lift.
“I’m sorry,” Kasen repeated. He unclasped the hand and stifled a sob as he bent in to kiss his father on the forehead, just as his father had done to him when he was a child. He lingered only a moment longer then stepped away, pushing the sliding table and body back into place and closing the metal door behind it.
Mind spinning, Kasen left the morgue hardly remembering or caring to take the proper precautions so that he wouldn’t be seen. By the time he reached the road, his guilt and anger had given way to a sense of purpose. He would find the group that had harmed the ones he cared about. He would find them and make them pay.
