He can be charming, exciting, and fun, but his only true interests are for his own well being and furthering the goals of his cult.
History:
Following his birth an infant boy was delivered to a local church by a young woman who refused to give any information about herself except that she couldn’t afford to support him and she hoped that God would forgive her. The child was quickly adopted by a local family of very devout Catholics whose parents were infertile and believed that God had made them this way so that they could give a good life to abandoned children. They named their new son Christian.
Growing up in a warm, loving family, with three older siblings and a nurturing, stay at home Mom, Christian was surrounded by an environment most would have killed to take part in. Christian would have gladly killed to get away. He felt smothered by the caring environment, hated taking part in charities for those who were apparently just too lazy to help themselves, and was disgusted by the faith the rest of his family had in the existence of God. The cause of this familial schism was an incident that occurred when Christian was only five years old.
When Christian had been five his parents chose to adopt another infant son, whom they named Matthew. Christian had been learning from his parents and religion instructor that God was always watching out for people, and, being a young, naturally curious child eager to see some of God’s “magic,” he decided to employ his new brother as his assistant in an experiment. He went into the infant’s room and dropped a pillow on top of him, waiting for the heavenly intervention that he was sure would arrive to save his brother from suffocation.
After almost a minute Christian began to fear that God would not come down to save the baby after all, and pulled the pillow out of the cradle. It was too late; Matthew was already dead. Christian’s faith was shattered. The family never knew the truth of what had happened, and assumed that there had been some natural birth complications that the adoption center hadn’t been told about, and Christian had discovered the body.
Believing his family to be naïve fools and the church rank with liars, Christian began to rebel. When he hit his teenage years the behavior escalated – refusing to attend services, sneaking out, stealing, fighting, becoming the drummer in a band called “The Sixth Circle” (referencing the sixth circle of hell in the Divine Comedy, where heretics are sent after death), and telling his friends and teachers to call him Chase instead of Christian because he couldn’t stand the sound of his own name. Though he had started out rebelling simply to spite his family, he quickly found that he genuinely enjoyed the thrill he got out of every risk he took, every time he came within a breath of injury, imprisonment, or even death, and then managed to escape.
When Chase was 17 one of his band-mates was approached about joining the cult called the “Followers of Amazarak.” This group was a highly secretive cult that claimed to worship and gain power from a demon called Amazarak. He told the rest of the band, who all scoffed the cult as delusional. Chase was the only one who was drawn in by the idea of finding proof of some greater power, and that same uncontrollable curiosity that had once led him to kill his brother now drew him irresistibly into the world of the cult. (Eventually Chase came to suspect that the cult had been after him all along, and had used his friend to get to him and to set up a test of his loyalty. This has never been confirmed, and by the time Chase began to suspect it he was too deep in to care.) As soon as they showed him the first glimpses of their powers, Chase was entranced. He finally had something real to believe in, and would do anything to hold onto that.
The cult told him that it was a risk for his band-mates to know about their existence, and to protect the cult and to prove himself he would have to get rid of that threat. With the first taste of power still surging through him, and the promise of more to come, Chase couldn’t imagine doing anything but what they asked. The first kill, his long-time friend Evan, was emotional and difficult, but after that it became easier, and with time he began to enjoy it.
After five years in their fold Chase has proven himself to be a great asset to the cult as a foot soldier, specializing in interrogating and assassinating Hunters, priests, or anyone else who appears to be interfering with Amazarak’s plans. While the cult often employs lost and confused youth as short-term pawns, Chase has proven to be loyal, clever, and morally flexible, and is trusted by the higher-ups enough to know the majority of Amazarak’s plans.
He left his family when he joined the Followers of Amazarak, and has only seen his brother Jonas since, when he tracked him down to try unsuccessfully to convince him to come home. They know nothing of the group or his involvement (as far as Chase knows, anyway).

A thrill of anticipation worked its way up Chase’s spine as he stepped past the threshold of the Wolf’s Den, the Hunters’ stronghold itself. Protected as it was from the entry of demons by that fancy seal dug into the ground, most Hunters pretty much figured they were safe inside this place.
But here he was, able to stroll in without a condemning lightning blast from the heavens, or so much as a sideways look. Those overconfident idiots had no idea the servant of Amazarak had just strolled into their midst, or that within a few hours one of their number would be dead.
Word had just come in from the guys in the suits who spoke directly to the big bad demon himself, and they said that a Hunter was getting “too close.” Chase hadn’t bothered asking what that meant. In all honesty, he hadn’t cared. Amazarak had given him the ok to make a challenging kill, and all he needed to know after that was a physical description, a name and a location.
His eyes scanned the dim interior of the pub, tallying up the patrons with the physical stats he’d been given. Too tall, too blonde, too old, too… gotcha. He narrowed his eyes at the Hunter seated alone at the left corner of the bar, and clicked off the stats in his head once more to be sure. No doubt, he’d found his target.
And now it was time to play…
