"Definitely not." She hadn't really thought through what she'd say if someone answered. There was no way of knowing what kind of person was on the other end. But what the hell, right? She was alone in the woods with a group of people that was seeming more like a brainwashing cult every minute. How much worse could her situation get?
"Just out of curiosity, does this Chase of yours make a habit of kidnapping people and bringing them out to creepy complexes in the middle of nowhere? Or am I just special?"

Jonas sputtered. First his brother who never calls him calls. Then when he picks up, it's not his brother, but a girl. And then, surprise number three, the girl asks him whether Chase kidnaps people often?
"I- You're-What?" He knew Chase was into some less than lawful dealings, but he'd never been confronted by a possible victim before. He paused and took a breath. This wasn't about Chase now, this was about a person who might be in trouble -one who might actually accept his help. "Are you saying you've been kidnapped? Are you ok? Are you hurt?"

The surprise and concern in the man's - Jonas's - voice was the last thing she'd expected. It caught her off-balance, and drained the self-righteous snark out of her tone.
"No... I mean, yeah, I'm ok. For now. I'm just off in the middle of nowhere in some Wyoming forest with this group of... I don't know, this cult. Chase said he was bringing me here to help me with my-" she cut herself off, realizing that censoring herself a bit might not be the worst move right now. "But I just overheard him talking to some creepy cartoon villain type about using me to wake up their Amazon lord or something."

"Amazon lord?" Jonas ran his free hand through his hair, scratching back and forth several times until his neatly combed hair was standing on end. It was a nervous habit he'd never quite gotten over and he did not like the sound of this. "Ok, just stay calm. You're in the middle of nowhere? So I guess leaving of your own accord isn't an option... Can you call the police?"
Even as he said it he felt a strange charge work its way down his spine. Some sixth sense told him that it wouldn't be that easy. That, although police have cracked down on cults plenty of times in the past, some cults were too dangerous for your average non-believing policeman. And if Chase, a cult, and 'waking up' of some 'Amazon lord' were mixed together, whatever was going on would probably require some major believing.

Alonna grimaced at the mention of the police. She'd been brought here because of her superpowers, and whatever this group wanted her for, she didn't doubt for a second that it was something the police would scoff at before going back to their doughnuts. Or get incinerated or something trying to help her out.
"This is... um..."
Chase had mentioned something about her powers. Wondered if it was a 'witch thing'. A witch thing. Weirdly enough, the idea of being an X-Man, Alonna could live with. Believing in witches was more of a stretch.
"I think this is kind of out of the police's league. Look, I don't know who Chase is to you or how much you know about him, but he is into some weird stuff. Like-" Ok, he was either going to be willing to help her or he wasn't. Might as well find out now, and if not she could move on to the next number she found. "-Alright, do you believe in magic?"

Jonas couldn’t help but give a wry smile as he remembered a certain devil’s trap drawn on the floor and a pillar of smoke controlling an innocent mother. There were several ways he could answer her question. He could chuckle. He could tell her how “magic” was a term that didn’t properly cover the divine and demonic powers at work in the world. He could talk about how being a priest kind of meant you believed in powers greater than oneself. But he went with the simplest answer.
“Yes, Miss. I do,” he said with a resigned sigh. “Probably more than most in my line of work. Probably more than most everyone. I know Chase has been on a dark road for…quite a long time. But who are you? What’s going on? And what’s Chase done?”

She blew out a breath, trying to figure out how to answer the questions, and which one to tackle first.
"Ok, well I guess if you were in league with him you'd be able to figure this much out anyway so, my name's Alonna Swanson. I met Chase a few weeks ago and he... well... he promised to help me out with this, I don't know what to call it... this supernatural issue issue I've been having. Probably shouldn't've trusted him, I know, but the first time I met him he sort of swooped in and saved me, and anyway he said he'd help me and you don't know how hard it is to find people who believe in magic... or maybe you do."
Who was this guy? What line of work was he in, that some people (if not many) believed in magic powers?
"Anyway, I was just sort of walking around this giant mansion in the woods he brought me to, and overheard him talking to this guy in a suit. This guy that Chase referred to as 'my lord,' like he's some minion from the evil league of evil or something. They were talking about gathering people together, waiting until the other five got here. He..." she squeezed her eyes shut and took another deep breath, trying to relive the conversation in her mind. "He was congratulating Chase on bringing a 'key pawn' here. Three guesses who they were talking about, right? And said that when their lord Amazalag - Amazarock? - showed up, they'd all get a big reward."

Jonas took another breath, trying to absorb what the young woman was saying.
"Chase as a flunky?" That didn't sound like his brother. Unless he was getting something good out of it perhaps? Or was being forced? "Lord Azagog -uh Amazarak..."
The priest realized he was pacing. "Look I don't know... exactly what's going on, but it doesn't sound good. But... it also sounds like if you are in fact this 'pawn' that you aren't in immediate danger. They need you."
The wheels in his mind were turning.
"Ms. Swanson, I need you to do something... I need you to turn on the GPS in Chase's phone."
He wasn't exactly sure how one went about tracking things like that, but he did have a friend in the police force. And a friend at Verizon. One of them should be able to help. Of course, that meant he planned on going out there, right?
Wyoming somewhere? At the drop of a hat? And to do what? Find his brother and this woman? Save them away from a mysterious cult? He could hear the condescending voice of his superiors in his head. They wouldn't approve of him leaving like that. Again. They didn't approve of many things he did. The old books on demons and pagan gods, the technically heretical scriptures.... That had earned him somewhat of a black sheep status amongst some of the more strict fathers and they worked hard to hide his extra curricular activities from the public. Which really wasn't that difficult.
"And I need you to tell me anything else you can about this cult and why they want you particularly."

[OOC: Wondering, would Jonas recognize the name "Amazarak"? I'm not sure where exactly he's mentioned, if he's a major player anywhere in the Bible or something...?) --IC:
She hadn't realized quite how tense she'd been until he asked her to turn on the phone GPS, and it all went out of her in such a rush that she felt herself sinking down onto the bed. Help. Help was coming. Which was definitely a good thing because beyond turning invisible and standing really quietly in a corner for the rest of her life, Alonna really wasn't sure how to get herself out of this mess.
"Ok, um... like I said, I don't really know that much. Chase told me they were a society of people like me, people with..." ok, all or nothing time, "with a... special power. A few months ago I realized I could do something. That I could turn invisible. Which sounds ridiculous, I know, but it happens. Someone I don't want to see comes walking up the street, with a little concentration I can just sort of, poof, now you see me, now you don't, you know? So anyway Chase shows up and says that he understands, that he can bring me to a place where everyone's got powers, where they'll be able to help me use them better.
"Of course when I get here pretty much everyone's acting like zombie people, there are these totally dead-eyed guards looming about, and I overhear Chase and the head honcho type talking. Sounds like no one here has powers like me, Chase doesn't even know what they are. He asked his boss if I was a witch. Like I'm brewing up a potion or slipping under an invisibility cloak. Oh, and the boss guy also said something like-" She cut off at the sound of footsteps coming up the hall. And here she was, standing in the room of an evil, lying cult guy, holding his phone and spilling his secrets.
Good call, Lon. Don't bother going back to your room where it's mildly safe, or anything. Oh, and don't bother closing the door behind you when you come in. Let's make it look super-suspicious from all the way at the end of the hall, why don't we?
Clicking the 'end call' button, she fiddled furiously with the phone for several seconds, heart racing as the footsteps came closer, switching on the GPS and dropping the phone back on the nightstand just as the footsteps reached the doorway and someone came into sight...

Ooc: When I wrote it, I didn't really think Jonas had heard of Amazarak before, but actually he might have seen the name in passing. He's definitely been perusing some of the more taboo religious books. He might have come across it. BIC: Someone who could turn invisible at will? Was that possible? He doubted she would lie. Or at least, it didn't sound like she was lying. Her tone had held a sincerity and worry that all but the most practiced liars could maintain through a conversation, not to mention while talking about such insane circumstances. So... she could turn invisible? That's... That is... A miracle! And this group Chase was running with had dark intentions for someone with such a gift? Jonas barely had time to bristle at the thought when Alonna cut off without warning. He pressed the phone closer to his ear and thought he could still hear breathing, some semblance of sound. But only for a moment. There was a click and sudden silence. "Ms. Swanson?" Nothing. "Alonna?" Jonas stared at his phone, which only confirmed his assumption. It read 'call ended'. He flipped it shut, his heart picking up the pace. Half consciously he touched the left pocket of his tan trenchcoat where his bible sat, a reassuring presence. He had to trace the call ASAP and get to Wyoming. Something big was going on and his brother and an innocent girl had gotten caught up in it. With a deep breath, he began heading back to his office to gather some research materials and flipped open the phone to call the airport and the police station. -.-.-.-.- Back to Wyoming-.-.-.-.-.-
