Sooo, it's been a while since this episode, but it is an important ep and should definitely get some discussion!
So! BOBBY, guys!! What did you all think of that episode and its implications?
I personally thought it was brilliantly done. Great acting, great story, and well told/done all around. What I absolutely hate, however, is that it means Bobby is dead!
In general I think this season is kind of... off. The writers don't really seem to be following through with the feel and emotion of what they generate, plot-wise. For example, 1) I totally did not believe Castiel died when he walking into the water. I just figured the Leviathen exploded out of him. Maybe the body disappeared (as they often do when an angel or demon wants to be elsewhere) or maybe it was destroyed, but I didn't think Cas was dead. But over the next several episodes everyone in the show was convinced he was.
Personally, until I see it raining little bits of Castiel, I don't really feel the whole death thing. I thought Cas was more dead when Lucifer snapped him into chunky soup bits than when the big bad Leviathen floated away in the water. It was kinda anti-climactic too. I was totally interested in seeing a bad-guy-Casviathen walking around trying to destroy the world or whatever.
By killing Cas, they also destroyed any hope he had of redeeming himself after his less than honorable actions in the previous season.
2) Sammy's bouts of seeing Lucifer. Awesome for the plot and very interesting character development. Loved the ep where Sam had to confront his hallucinations head on, but since then we are lucky if we get to see Sam press his wound to clear his mind every couple of episodes. No, I don't think every ep should depict Sammy fightint his way out of a horryifying delusion, but they just sort of... dropped the idea a little too quickly.
And Then came Bobby's ep. Like I said, awesomely done episode and the implications for the brothers could be devestating. Should be devestating. Should have some sort of overall effect on the brothers and their story. Why else would they get rid of an important character? I have loved this show for years (obviously) and I would like to believe that they did not simply do it for drama's sake -to add even more guilt and sorrow to weigh down Sam and Dean, the latter of which is already on his way to drowning- and some sort of attempt to gain ratings. I would not have even doubted it in previous seasons... but now I worry. I enjoy monster-of-the-week episodes, but there is a plot in motion. Leviathen. And when they create stories that are bigger than monster-of-the-week(death of Bobby/Lucifer hallucinations) that would logically have impacts that reverberate into future eps, they have to incorporate those stories into that plotline. Preferably not just in the last two episodes or something...
Ok, that rant went on a bit too long.
Back to Bobby: I am SO sad that they killed him! However much I like that episode, I'm not sure I like that they did it. He was their go to man. Their surogate father. The only one they could complain about each other to who would actually be able to talk some sense back into them. What are they going to do now? I hope this isn't the last we see of him! Whether as a ghost or a flashback or something else, they should definitely bring him back.
RIP Bobby Singer
