Before the angel Castiel needed a vessel in order to speak with Dean Winchester, this blue-eyed man was a humble priest with an easy smile. Personality:
Becoming a priest was probably the best career path for Jonas Anders. He is easy going, soft-spoken, upbeat, and generally optimistic about the goodness that can be found in every human being. He believes in a better world and that through love and kindness it can be achieved. For him, the Bible was a guide to just that. Jonas is the kind of person who will go out of his way to help someone he doesn’t know. He’s been told that sometimes he gets too involved in the problems of those he tries to help, but his only interest is getting them back on the right track.
He is very loving towards his family and fiercely protective of his younger brother Christian, despite the obvious pleasure Christian takes in profane and sacrilegious behavior. Or perhaps because of it. Jonas believes that despite all that has happened, he can save his brother.
History:
Jonas never knew his birth parents as he was given up for adoption soon after he was born. At just under three months, Jonas was adopted into the Anders family by a devout a pair of Catholics. They could not have children of their own and believed that it was so they could reach out and give good lives to abandoned children. Jonas was the third child the family adopted, the Anders already having two older adopted children, Daniel and Mary. Christian came into the family when Jonas was three, and Matthew joined them five years later. A few months after Matthew’s adoption, however, he died of what the family believed to be some natural complications that the birth parents had not mentioned when they left him at the orphanage (see Chase’s history).
The Anders family was very loving and taught all of their children in the ways of their religion, but Jonas was the one who seemed to take to the ideas and teachings most eagerly. After graduating high school Jonas, on the path to becoming a priest, joined the seminary. At the same time, however, Jonas’s parents were having trouble dealing with Christian who was becoming evermore wild and spiteful. Jonas received special permission from the school so that he could live at home much of the time so as to help his parents keep an eye on the youngest son. Two years later, following the seemingly accidental deaths of all of his band mates, Christian ran away from home.
Jonas, believing Christian to be in trouble, devoted himself to tracking his brother down and convincing him to return to his family. He knew that Christian was involved in something dangerous, though exactly what, he didn’t know. When he (age 20) found his brother, Christian (age 17) coldly refused to come home. But it wasn’t his brother’s refusal that finally forced Jonas to retreat, but the hints of a great and menacing darkness filled with such a feeling of evil that he found himself frightened and he fled back to the seminary.
When Jonas’s required seven years were completed, he became a deacon for several months before taking the vow of priesthood and became a priest in his town’s church. This achievement should have left him the pride of his family, but instead of focusing on the church and his duties, Jonas became very secluded since his appointment. He now spends his time pouring over the scriptures and then sneaking off to occult shops and learning from the owners and those who frequent the place. His mother, upon visiting him to try and find out what was wrong, happened across a book on demons and witchcraft that left her fearing for the soul of her son.
In truth, Christian is the reason for Jonas’s behavior. Though years have passed, Jonas can’t force himself to give up on his brother, the way the rest of the family seems to have, and he is just beginning to suspect the truth behind the dark nature of what Christian has gotten himself caught up in.

“Jonas?”
The man started and spun away from the distance he’d been staring off into to find Father Gregory standing in the isle beside the pew he sat in.
“Father.” Jonas made to stand up and greet him properly, but Father Gregory motioned for him to stay seated, which he did. The older man gathered his long coat and sat down on the bench beside Jonas.
“Jonas,” the old priest started, “The time is almost upon you, son.”
Jonas looked over to him in confusion.
“To take the vow and enter into the priesthood,” Gregory replied. Jonas’s distant eyes filled with understanding and he nodded slowly, leaning forward to rest his arms on his thighs as the Father finished. “It’s just over a year now.”
“Yes, Father.”
“I remind you of this because lately you’ve seemed… distracted. I was hoping you might want to talk about what’s troubling you.” The older man’s concern was not lost on Jonas, but honestly at the moment talking was not something he desired to do. “You should be proud about what you have accomplished already in this town. Your enthusiasm and leadership in organizing activities, in counseling troubled individuals young and old… Jonas, you are one of the most promising students I have seen in a long time.”
A small smile pulled at Jonas’s lips. “Thank you, Father.”
“You and your family have always shown great faith and generosity to the church-“ the Father continued, but Jonas interrupted him.
“All but one of us you mean.”
The Father blinked and seemed a little taken aback, though Jonas couldn’t tell if it was because he’d cut him off or because he had in fact forgotten about that one person.
“Forgive me, Father, I didn’t mean to be rude.”
“There is nothing to forgive, Jonas.” The older man hesitated. “Is… he the reason for your distraction then?”
Jonas sighed and nodded, looking back towards the front of the church. “Christian left the family on such horrible terms. And right after the death of his friends… I fear for him, Father.” Now that he’d started, Jonas found that he needed to continue to confide in Gregory. “He’s always been wild, but over the last several years… And I tried to talk to him, tried to keep him on God’s path, but every time I did it seemed to distance us further. And now he’s who knows where, alone, and likely in more trouble than he understands.”
Jonas looked to the older man, hoping for guidance. Father Gregory pursed his lips and heaved a great sigh and when he spoke, his tone was different, darker.
“Jonas… In this business we can do much good in the world by bringing much light to those who, somewhere inside, want to be saved. But,” Gregory said as he put a heavy hand on Jonas’s shoulder, “We must also face the fact that there are some people who cannot be saved. Let that… that boy go, Jonas. Before he destroys you.”
The younger man stared at the priest as a cold feeling of shock and horror settled in his gut. Accept that some people could not be saved? That his brother could not be saved? That went against the very core of his being. His feeling of disgust and betrayal went unnoticed by Father Gregory who gripped Jonas for another moment in what was supposed to be an encouraging manner -though to Jonas it just seemed so suddenly wrong- then stood and took his leave silently.
Jonas didn’t watch him go, but after his footsteps had retreated beyond his hearing Jonas spoke to no one. “Sorry. That’s not something I can do.”
